PROJECT 1:

INTRODUCTION.

This project requires students to develop a deeper understanding of the rationale behind selecting specific materials for various architectural applications. By engaging directly with the inherent characteristics and properties of these materials, students will gain valuable insights into the significant influence they have on overall building design.

METHODOLOGY.

In our group of SEVEN (7) students, we conducted a comprehensive case study on the TRX building, located in Kuala Lumpur. Through site visits, we were able to observe the building firsthand, allowing us to accurately identify and analyze five architectural building materials and two structural building materials used in its construction. We collaboratively worked on a Canva board to organize and present our findings. Additionally, we selected ONE (1) material that exemplifies an experiential impact on end users, providing a detailed illustration of its installation process. Our site visits were instrumental in extracting data and gaining a deeper understanding of the building's material applications. Following this, we compiled our findings—including descriptions, photos, and drawings—onto an A1 size board, which reflected our collaborative efforts and the insights gained from our hands-on experience.

Our group faced challenges from the beginning, including slight disagreements and misunderstandings. Initially, there was little to no communication from a few members, which not only disrupted our collaborative process but also made it difficult to delegate tasks accordingly. Though the group leader tried her best to encourage open dialogue, it was all in vain as some of them only began to gather momentum towards the end, nearing the deadline. However, amidst the discord, I hope everyone recognized the need for open communication and mutual respect, especially when navigating challenges within group projects. Ultimately, the experience served as a valuable lesson in teamwork as well as the ability to compromise when conflicting ideas arise.
